Dubai Opera House

Dubai Opera House sits as the center piece of the new Dubai Opera District, an arena designed to bring world class acts to the city and form a new Middle East hub for art, music, theatre and culture.

Dubai Opera House meets a brief from the client, Emaar, for a multi-functional theatre which will become the focal point of the new district at the heart of Downtown Dubai, as well as a new architectural reference point for the region.

Colt provided SM5 smoke curtains as part of a fire engineering design, which came with a few technical challenges.

Firstly, Colt were able to provide technical assistance to provide a workable solution to satisfy the Dubai Civil Defence.

Secondly, the smoke curtains needed to be fitted around the curves and contours of the building's striking design, meaning that the design needed more input from Colt's technical department in order to ensure correct fitting.

Lastly, the installation itself threw up another challenge in the form of an architectural change to the ceiling design after the delivery and first fix installation. This meant that Colt had to adapt by relocating and modifying the installation to accommodate the new design, perfectly executed by Colt's site engineer Mathew Augustine.
